That sounds awesome! Vaguely remember a school project along these lines, using somenpvc pipe stuck into a potatoe so you get a little bit wedged into the tip. Are you guys using whole potatoes or pumpkins?

No, we just do the potato thing. We shape or cut them and then front load them into a 2 inch pipe which is barrel, and a 4 inch which is the combustion/explosion chamber. The "shot" almost looks like big shotgun slug. And we only compete on three catagories. There is the typical longest shot, then closest to pin (they just stick a pole in the ground with a flag to it and see who can land one the closest. Noramlly around the 110m mark... but that is way to close for us. That is really more luck that skill involved), and the final one is where all the teams line up and a guy in chicken suite has to survive for 2min. Normally one of the organisers who did something stupid somewhere is the unlucky guy... and he runs around at 40m makred line or so. That is extremely funny... espcially when there are about 15 to 20 teams competing.

The pumpkin chunking one is like the monsters they build in the USA... but that is pumpkin shooting on an unrestricted level. Some of the cannons those guys build barely fit onto a flat bed for a 18 wheeler and they use ultra high pressure equipment for that. That is something different all together to what we do. LOL

I remember a while back there was a person who made their own clear spraybar, it looked good, almost like something from an ADA setup, just cant remember if it was glass or acrylic or something else.

Gavin, when and where in Sasol is the competition held?

@Good_Times: It is normally during the winter months (unfortunately), but I guess the visibility is better then also. In 2010 and 2011 is was held in the July, and I think it was the third weekends. Then in 2012 they held it in middle of June, and then last year in middle of August. The first three were held at the DP de Villiers Stadium on the three rugby fields that are next to each other. Last year it was held at the HTS school, but the fields (shooting range) was actually to small for our gun/cannon.

This year so far we are unsure. It sounds like they might only have it later in the year, maybe around October or November, but to be honest I have no clue. The first three years there were a lot of teams, but I think last year it clashed to much with the school winter sports. I emailed the one guy I know from the Round Table 41, but they still need to make a call on this as they are still considering going on with the event, but only later in the year.. I really hope they have another one, and I hope maybe that with warmer temperatures they might attract a bigger crowd and more teams. Winter is a bit of sh*tty time to do something like this... since "practicing" after work is very difficult and very short due to the short days.

I guess I can always put up a notice in the general discussion bit when and if we know when it will be held if anyone is interested?

So after a few months the untidy piping and the inconsistent flow was getting to me.
So upgraded the pipe tp 32mm and went pvc almost all the way, had to "make a plan" with the intake since I couldnt find a cage for the end.
Looks a whole lot neater and the flow is much better.
