Yes, I will not trust Wazeers ever again, they tell you all these nice things but when there is a problem, sorry can't help you. Thanks

I've been through many as well, Marineland, Attman, Tetra, Sicce, Eheim. My oldest survivng one is the Eheim, but they are out ragously priced. Over the years I have come up with many Macgyver tricks to repair caniters and keep them going.

But I agree canister filters are a big issue when it comes to spares, I have also been spun many stories in many pet stores about how good thier filters are and spares are available etc..But when you actually try to get them a few years later....

In my experience the first thing to go is always the big O ring, followed by leaky outlets, followed by worn impellers or impeller magnets and finnaly the entire plastic canister begins to loose its integrity in shape and won't seal 100% any more between pump head and canister.

But having said all that I have always had success with canister fillters and if loaded correctly will keep your tank running perfectly with little intervention. I wont stop using them any time soon, sorry for rambling....

No sweat, advice is always good, will try a seal shop near me if opened tomorrow or a pool shop.

Neezo, remember that when you buy a new seal/o-ring for your canister, the replacement seal must be a bit thicker to ensure a proper seal.

A 1/4 of a mm should do the trick.

You can also buy one that is 0.5 mm thicker and stretch it to size, worked on my last refurbished powerhead xD

Even builders sells them, I just recently purchased one from them I think it was 50 bucks.

@Neezo, good luck with the DIY

We also had constant problems with the seals on canisters when we used them irrespective of where we bought them
Spares for Resun and SunSun are impossible to get
Dophin you can get spares for

Must admit that I dont miss the canisters especially when they start leaking overnight and you have no other filtration

Thanks, when it works, it does the job with matrix and Purigen, then it gives you sleepless nights off flooding.

    Yep you so right

Fortunately never had problems with spares for Dophin
We also founf that the constant power outages seemed to have an influence in the seals pacing up more often

Well I found the same with my old eheim Pro 2.

I went to builders warehouse who said they did not stock orings (bad sales) so I did the usual thing and went into the shop and li and behold found an oring for R29.

Bought it and got home and replaced the old oring which I scraped out Eheim still leaked a little. When I looked more closely I found the leak actually was a tiny hairline crack in the valve one inlet one piece, where the tubes attach and only leaked on pressure.

Superglued it and after a few hours perfect machine again. Works well now for the weeks

Sometimes it's the least expected place!

Managed to get the only seal, but its thicker, can I shave off the edges slightly so that it can fit in

Just be careful, if the seal is under tension/strain it might tear.

Usually even though its thicker you will find that once you strech it over and into place it should fit. I would not attempt to shave or cut it in any way as this will alter its integrity and its ability to creat a proper seal.

True, took it back for a slightly smaller 1, tank topped up so now I want to monitor it as it is under a lot of water pressure, I am not sexist, racist etc but the boss's daughter said that's the only 1 she has , guess she was wrong... hint :) a sigh of relief
