@shan, one's like these are extremely rare, it's a question of being at the right place at the right time. The betta I've found that looks almost like him was by pure luck. This LFS rarely has fine specimens like him. I was just glad to have been at the right place at the right time.

Hi all. I collected one of the HM male's today. I took these pics at the LFS with my SonyEricson X10 Mini, so the quality is very poor, I will take better pics later of him since he is in the spawning tank with my black HM female. He has build a nice size nest within the 1st hour of being in the spawning tank. Here is... his name is Velvet.

he's gorgeous @Charles. i've always had a thing for black orchids. i may have to pay you a visit, i definately have at least 1 male, i'll give the other 2 more chance to grow but i think they definately female. can you better tell the males and females from the batch i bought from? im actually thinking i'd like a white if you've got?

@windfire, yes telling males from female is much easier now...lol Just give me a tinkel in advance before you come so you don't end up at dead mans door. Do have some white-ish pastels left. Do you need them male or female?

@windfire, I'll check tonight if there is white and green female's left, there is definately green and green with either white or black on the fins, must just check what and how many is male and female. Will let you know later tonight.

@Rooivlerkie, the CT spawn is doing very well thank you, the blue fire dragon hm male x white hm female is also doing very well, have posted some pics of them already in earlier post's, also commented on the blue fire dragon hm male x super red gold dragon hm female spawn in earlier post's. The last mentioned spawn is disapointing due to deformities of some of the fry, there is some very nice one's that even display the blue dragon scale's, there is a couple of double tail's in there as well, this means only one thing and that is that both parents carry the DT gene and passed it of to some of the fry, the fry that does have the DT is mostly deformed in one way or the other, I think there is 2 maybe 3 that looks ok.

Hi all. I almost lost my new Black Orchid HM male last night in the spawning tank with the Black HM female, he got stuck between the sponge filter and the glass in the corner. Luckily my wife was restless and checked up on them at about 23H50 otherwise he was a gonner. At about 01H00 I checked on them again and then the female was stuck... Ai tog... I moved the sponge filter in such a way that there is now no way they can get stuck even if they tried their best to get stuck. I'll tell you this though, I'm lekker tired this morning after fishie sitting last night...lol. This morning still no eggs yet, female nice fat and loaded with eggs, they will probably spawn while I'm at work.

Don't know about the DT spawn, nest looks empty this morning, not sure if the male ate the eggs, they were supposed to have hacthed this morning and there is nothing yet. Will see when I get home tonight...

Thanks @windfire. Yes it would have been a tragedy to loose him this way. At least he is fine now and going strong. The black HM female is just very stubborn, he gets her to the nest, some tail wacking and then she moves away from the nest again. Patience is not one of my strong points these days... but it will get better soon I pray.

Hi all. The Black Orchid HM male X Black HM female has eggs in the nest when I looked yesterday afternoon. They should hatch by tomorrow 12 April 2012. Will keep update on their progress. Hopefully this time the spawn will be a sucess. I'm very excited about this particular spawn. From the previous attempt out of the 4 that originally survived only one remains and I'm protecting this one little fry. Put him/her in a seperate guppy breeding tank in my 2ft tank with the other HM fry.

@col182, I sure hope so. Would be very nice if I can get a pair that breeds true, even if it's through their young in F2 and/or F3 spawn. Aiming for that. Also want to improve on the fin size and strength. Want that dorsal fins longer and cadual stronger. This will take some time through line breeding to accomplish and some Double tail gene's.
