    I have a steel blue CT male that wasnt building nests and he was also very shy and aggro. Managed to get him to relax a bit by adding loads of floating plants and staining the water with rooibos. Now suddenly he has a HUGE bubblenest and is relaxed. But have to be honest Im not CT fan, give me the half moons and even plain old veiltails. Will be taking pics this weekend of my boys. But the two main ones have been going at their tails a bit so they look scraggly at the moment.

    I did the Attisons Betta Spa thing...nothing. I have enough floating plants in there... the setup is the same as all my other succesful spawns... I will redo the tank. Start from scratch with this tank. Just use blackwater extract like I did on all the previous one's. Some of them I used just plain aged tap water, a sponge filter, hidding place for the female, half a styrofoam cup and a heater, and Bob's you're uncle. No additive's nothing...succesful spawns. I won't give up, never, one way or the other they will spawn, I just need to be more patient and let nature take it's course.

    Yep the main thing to remember is no rush! (well at least not a huge one :p) Give them time to get used to the environment - most of my boys takes about 2 or 3 weeks!

    With that kind of motivation they will breed if they survive the heart attack :bigsmile:

    @Charles Hi Charles, Don't you want to keep me in the loop when you have successfully breed the third pair? How much are you charging for offspring?

    Hi @Hotdog, to which pair are you referring to? Yes I will keep you in the loop and everybody else for that matter. Like they say..."Watch this Space".

    Hi all. I have matched my White Platinum CT female with an Orange CT male. The male has already eagerly build a nest. The female keeps detroying it though but he's a persistant builder. Will post some pics of them later tonight as well. Sorry for delays in pics and progress as I have over 300 jars of fry alone that keeps me busy, ever so slightly, and then there is 10 other tanks full of fry and adults to take care of as well as two BIG OSCARS that requires alot of attention. Why did I have to get Oscars again...and then the one is biting the crap out of me if I stick my hand in the tank to clean a bit, but any how, I will have to prioritise my time again, thats all and maybe get some Valiums for the Oscars...or for me, that way if they bite I just won't care.lol.

    This is the two CT's I have matched. If all goes well this time... they should be spawning in this week still.

    @Charles, I love the colour of this male, he really is stunning. I wouldn't mind getting a male like this from you.

    Hi all.

    Good news!!! The CT pair has spawned!!! Believe or not... not a single bubble in the nest... hundreds of eggs!!! Caught the last egg laying at 14h30 this afternoon by chance. I removed the female shortly after that because the male chased her relentlessly away from the nest. ETA of DOB is 08/03/2012.

    @Skye01, yes he is a beautiful male. Unfortunately I only have one of them. There was two at my LFS and I chose this one. Don't know if they still have the other one, I will call and find out tomorrow for you. Let me know if you want one just like mine. CT = Crowntail (for a male it is CTM and female CTF)
    VT = Veiltail
    HM = Halfmoon
    DT = Doubletail
    D = Deltatail
    SD = Super Deltatail

    Then there is the Geneology... thats gets confusing... for example: If you cross a DTM to a STF the resulting fry would end up something like this... DTst (Doubletail with Singletail gene); DTdt (Doubletail with doubletail gene); STdt (Singletail with doubletail gene) and so on... it gets tricky depending whether you work with genotype or phenotype., but you can google it. It will take forever if I try to explain it to you and even I battle with it most of the time, like I said, it gets tricky and confusing. If you do get the hang of it, it's a great tool in determining the outcome of a spawn, but still Betta genes is very unpredictable.

    Update on the CT spawn...

    The fry are starting to hatch, I can already see the little tails, the male is only blowing a couple of small bubbles to help keep the eggs in place at the water level. So far so good.
