Blue Green (Cyanobacteria) Algae - Please HELP!

@brandonb - thank you very much for the information. I'm not familiar with the product and had to go and google it. Sounds like an amazing product all and all if I understand its uses correctly.

Cyano results from low movement of water with oxygen thru' your filter. It is the wrong sort of bacteria in there and on everything else in the tank. Cyano has the ability to use atmospheric nitrogen from the air (air has about 80% nitrogen) and also any nitrogen in the tank to "fix" this nitrogen resulting in nitrite and nitrate and so it goes on. They actually encourage cyano in the rice paddies of SE Asia because it does this so well and adds nitrates. I am battling red cyano in a fw set up but had the green/blue in another tank as well. Switch off the CO2 and cut down on the feeding. Clean out any sludge out your filter. That stuff just adds nitrates. Increase flow rate. Remove as much cyano as possible from the tank. Get some Purigen in a small bubble up filter or place some in your filter. I am now trying some ADA Green Bacter...1 drop per 10 litres for a week. Will let you know how that works. I rinse the mechanical foam of the canister filter weekly. It has improved but not all gone yet.
