Apparently rotifers will grow on the decomposing leaves. So when your Altums breed :blink1: the fry will have food.

My tank is blackwater with nice wood (some plants which I will get rid of except for the Java ferns).

Just a word of advice: Its a nightmare to take good pics of the tank if you don't know photography!!! Either the light is to dark and you can't see anything, or its to light (surrounding light) and causes reflections on the glass..... that is why I have never posted pics of my tank (which I think is looking good BTW) :)

    I'll try again tonight!:fisheye:

still a work in progress. got a spong filter in the one corner which will leave as soon as my sump is up and running, and like I said before: The other plant are going to make a quick exit shortly, will then add more wood. I am getting angels from Prof Bellstedt this weekend!

These are great setups and you can recreate it very easily.

On the lighting part I might not go downlighter. I would do a CFl and cover the top with a black sheet with irregular shapes cut into it. Mount the CFL a little above the sheet.

You get these thick driftwood pieces in the LFS that is a light color on one side and very dark on the other. These leak tannins like nobodies business for quite some time and they look awesome too.

    Right Guys,

Now if you post a thread like this, then you also get me going.....

I gave a lecture on South American biotopes in Pretoria a few years ago, with pics of the habitat on discus, angels and altum angels.

Since that time I have given a lot of attention to my South American interests and I have visited Simon Forkel, altum breeder, in Germany and I have increase my acitivity on the international finarama angel fish forum on which I am an administrator http://www.finarama.com/forum/.

Now if some of you are prepared to organize a venue, I am prepared to present a presentation with a lot of pics and images on this topic and we can all have a good exchange of ideas and experiences.

Would you guys be interested? I am prepared to fly up for a meeting such as this, it would have to be organized a few weeks in advance, but I think it would be a nice opportunity to meet everyone in the north?

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    Hi Eugene,

I am going to canoe down a river in Pondoland in early April in an inflatable, so we can perhaps think of this. Perhaps it may be better for me to talk to you guys on my way there rather than on the way back........

    Let us think of it.....

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    Hi Mzungu,

We should think about a place where we can have a braai afterwards, is UP suitable for that? Perhaps a private place may be better? You must make a suggestion?
    Kind regards,

    Dirk

Nice Henk, really nice, I think I am going to have to take you on a hike sometime and then we will see if the old kakker can walk you off your feet, young man!

I have been personally invited by my botanical friend of many years, Ernst van Jaarsveld, to go down the Msikaba River. However, I think that there may be a lot of walking involved rather than canoeing as well.

Do you want to be the driver Henk?

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

Thanks Prof, will put some heads together and see what we can come up with. Perhaps @Marco can come down and have a chat about parasite free discus too :). He is owing a visit to his fishes anyway. This may be a great time to re-establish the Eastern Cape Aquatic Society again while were at it.

Expect to hear from me OFTEN hahaha
