Hehe, I've got some friends at Tuks who might know where to go for those, I'll give it a try when I get time to go that side

 

Okay, so judging by what I was able to find on the .gov.za sites it's between Department of Environmental Affairs and Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. They mostly speak about import or export, but DAFF does have applications for breeding. I'm hoping that might be the one I'm looking for?

 

and GP Nature conservation and dep of agriculture who enforces some of the permits

 

At the Gauteng Department of Agricultural and Rural Development there's pemits to catch fish, catch wild animals, and to keep wild animals. They have specific ones for spiders but nothing for aquaculture on it's own. Looks like all the permits are R50.

There seem to be permits for exotic animals as well, meaning that all the hoo ha about the blacklist might be able to be circumvented with a simple permit. Someone will have to look into it though.

Well it still provides a glimmer of hope, something to try
I was shocked to see that the national departments don't have anything other than your name and address on the form. They don't even seem to care what animals you're trying to get a permit for. Unless it's hidden somewhere that you have to provide supporting documentation.

 

Hey Whipme Henk Hugo makes it sound impossible to get a permit, it really isn't I can give you some contact details tomorrow if you like which will make the process shorter when applying. Depending on what you want to keep you will get a second more detailed form that you need to fill in. My nephew used to keep Axolotls and breed them because some of the species is endangered.

 

I would appreciate some help thanks, even if I don't end up getting any indigenous shrimp at least I'll be able to relay the process to other members on the forum who want to do things like this legally.

We could become the first forum in the country to legally document the keeping of freshwater invertibrates!
