Blacklisted Species

Yip i know, thanks for that. Are there by any chance inspectors that visit LPS? I think there could be, but obviously they don't do their job correctly (Thats only if there is)

 

At one stage or another I am sure all of us have or still does keep something that is on the black list, I think the major difference is the amount of responsibility we take in looking after it and to make sure it doesn't enter our local water systems.
If you want something on th BL then we should be able to bring it in but have certification for it.

From what I understand, {And Henk will respond when he's less busy} most FW fish and plants are blacklisted due to (1) being endangered or (2) the possibility of destroying SA's natural FW habitiats.

I have a question to add to this thread. Is there a Marine species BL, and what are the reasoning' behind that?

Yes, Ash you are right. If a species is a CITIES listed animal or plant you, need permits. All of the plants and fish on the various black lists are considered invasive by the authorities.
The problem with the plant list is that it is a combination of Singapore, Hawaii and the CARA listings. Some of the species on the list cannot be seen as invasive in South Africa. Anubias are hardly fast growing plants even under ideal conditions in a tank. Echinodorus tenellus is a very difficult plant to get to thrive under ideal conditions.
Unfortunately, those in power make the rules and we as the citizens have to follow them. The problem comes in when those in power are ignorant and uneducated in their field of “expertiseâ€.

Just remember ignorance of the law is not considered a valid excuse.
