Also you will notice the air pump in the sump. This is to aerate the bio because i will be using filter socks for mechanical and this will as far as i understand from what i have read slow the flow to much to aerate properly.?.?.? On to the socks. Well i cannot find them in SA so i diy'ed them too. haha. Some are made of felt and felt you find at any fabric store and have a very high micron rating witch is good for filtrasion but bad for clogging fast. So far so good. They work excellent and no problems so far. But its to soon to tell for sure?

I did look into them. But no not fine enough. This is going to be a good test and I really hope it works like I think it can. Its a big thing in the states. Almost all the forums I checked out swear by them... But maybe people here also use them and I just don't know how to work google. But I couldn't find them anywere in SA?

What couldn't you find ? Filter socks ? You get the vertex filter socks with bracket and a no name sock plus brqcket from aquarium depot, all the shops that carry marine stuff will be able to get it for you, or any shop that stocks seachem. But what you have will do exctly the same thing, but you will find that it clogs up fast.

Hey a3aan, I like your DIY skills! Looks like a great setup and I like the sump with only 2 chambers.

@PsyXe and @Ryno Thanks a lot. I sometime think I like the build part a little tooo much. The nice thing about diy is if its a sucsess you can tell everyone you did it yourself and if it fails you can just say ja you should have propably just payed someone to do it.

Awesome build. It's coming together nicely.

I agree with Ryno. The internal filter is a good option but in this case with the sump already in effect I wouldn't bother going internal.

Thanks again for the replies guys. And yes a big part of my sump plan was to increase water volume. But more then that is to keep the tank that was already smaller then I hoped for as clean as possible. Even the overflow was to big. But that had to be there.

Hey @a3aan, Very good build there man. You have some skill dude. I like your designs and can see you did alot of homework on this one. Looking forward to see the end result although I'm not complaining about the story. Like the pics. :top:

I believe a +1 is in order for a job well done.

Oh and the sump... Way cool man. One of the biggest I'v seen, and a good design. Looks like a 3 foot tank underneath that monster.

What is an internal sump ? As far as I know a sump is something that is underneath your tank, hence the name sump.

Internal sump is a section inside your tank that has been closed off for a internal sump.

@a3aan great DIY there. You have inspired me to rethink my sump design on my 1.8m tank. +1

But a sump can not be internal ? It is something that sits underneath something, that is what. The word sump means ?

@hviviers75 you modified the post after i replied. Any way was giving advice just like you did. So dont go all hay wire because of this. Act mature and just leave it.

Haha semantics war. I see what you mean @G.FYSter, but I don't know what else one could call it. Internal compartment filter? Tidy, but the problem of course is that it steals volume from your tank instead of adding to it. I like a3aan's setup better because of the stability you get from a really huge volume of water. I'm thinking of setting up a side-by-side sump/DIY canister for my big tank in the future.

    Ok ok guys play nice....:shakehands:

    So on with the story...

Took some more pics last night of the overflow and socks in action. Some of you propably wonder why i did the socks in pvc? well the plan at the start was to do them with some high density foam and filter floss. So if my socks fail i have a backup plan...

The last pick is the strainer part that was missing from the pic of the overflow outside.
