Yip, magnet scrapers don't exist in my house anymore, done their damage and gotten what they deserved (hopefully buried deep in a landfill at this point).
I would highly recommend Ista's acrylic multilayer algae scraper

Two of my tanks have black backgrounds and I love it, my third has no background and I can see the brick wall behind my tank. Love that as well.

I am still in the process of deciding what to do with my third tank, paint it black or leave it like that.

My tank has a black background.
IMO it makes the whole tank look too dark
With hindsight I should have gone with something a bit lighter.

    I have
    Replaced the tubes with LEDs

I also think fish try to blend in with the background and also can go darker. Cichlids tend to do this in my experience.

That could be interesting...you'll buy 10 neons and end up with 20.

I painted 2 of my tanks. 1 black and 1 blue. The blue looks really good. The black looks stunning too but a big no no with black fish

I actually painted the bottom of my tank with textured paint and converted it to bare bottom. Looks good until the fish poop appears a few minutes later. Today I went to buy some fine black gravel just because of that!

A tiled tank looks very nice when well done with nice tiles however, from what i have read not very practical

A lot of the guys with rays overseas go bare bottom and then some dont like the look and try go tiled so it looks nicer but, a few months down the line, they pull all the tiles out as, apparently the amount of gunk that gets trapped under the tiles is horrendous and they have to lift all the tiles every second month or so to clean underneath properly

You can imagine what happens when you lift them and all that gunge floats all over your tank..

Cesar also thought of doing it.. but then after reading what so many guys say. he changed his mind
We also thought maybe glue them to avoid the muck getting under but we were a bit concerned on how the tiles glued would react to expanding or contracting of the glass with the heat if that happens but as we not sure.. we were too scared to take a chance

So.. just a thought to keep in mind and if you do it, monitor your water parameters carefully especially the first few months to make sure all is ok
