    Thanks guys.

These little guys are still babies though. They are still very small. I think the males are about 4 cm. so they still have lots of growing to do.

To get them into good shape, I will be feeding live baby brine shrimp, frozen bloodworm, frozen super shrimp, ocean nutrition flake, sera vipagran, and hikari foods... These guys will be fed at least twice per day. I need them to grow nicely for me.

I've been looking forward to these fish for YEARS!!

Today has been a very depressing day for me. Besides the usual algae battles of an early Sunday morning on water change day, I found out that my mother has had a very severe stroke, and we nearly lost her. It has been one hell of a day, rushing off to Vanderbijl Park to be with the family. Thankfully, she is now stable and doing ok...

But, I was busy feeding the fish not even 10 minutes ago, and low and behold, I found a female A. sp. Inka chilling in a cave. A pot, mind you... So, I, being curious, lifted the pot to see inside. Yup, there are about 40 nice red eggs in the cave!! The only fish in the tank are the Inkas. And, this is the pair that was being beaten up in the main tank, and also the pair that wouldn't form a pair bond! This was the pair I was worried about! How awesome is that?!?! Ok, so there is officially, a spawning of Apistogramma baenschi in South Africa!!!

@Sean J, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I hope that she bounces back from this nasty episode to her normal self with no ill-effects.

    :party2: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! :party2:

This is awesome news. I can't wait to see pictures of the micro spots when they start coming out to play. Thank you for keeping me in mind, I'm getting excited. When can I get my pair.....? Hehehe

Again, well done and well wishes to your mom. Please keep us up to date with her recovery.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I appreciate it. The doctors say she should make a Steady recovery...

On the fishy side, I'm overjoyed! I was hoping to have this happen! That's what it's all about right? And the reason I bought 2 pairs! But ja, let's not count fry before they hatch. I just hope I didn't disturb the mom too much, and I really hope she doesn't eat the eggs after! I will be watching her and the cave very closely for the next few days! I have almost completed my DIY brine shrimp hatchery... I was supposed to finish that today, but ja... Life happens.

    Tomorrow is another day.

    Howsit @Sean J
I have had the same happen in close family, and friend circle.
The best thing is steady supportive assistance ... I sincerely wish your Mu, and your family all the strength and support in overcoming this setback!

BTW, my family are from Vanderbilpark too!

Nice stuff, your Inca are going to confirm and deny many ideas we have of this species, for SA hobbyists until now.
    Well done!

Hey, I'm from Durban! My folks just live there at the moment :p

Anyway, female is still guarding her pot! So good news. I'm really hoping some fry come from this!

Finally got the brine shrimp hatcheries working, so i got a batch on the boil!! Hopefully they hatch and I can feed the fry.

I'm very excited about these little guys!

    So this is Dad:

And the orangie specs on the spot of cyano is some of the fry... They are incredibly difficult to photograph without a macro lens. But they are there...

It's a small spawn. there are 10 free swimming fry. They have been fed some brine shrimp and their bellies are nice and fat and orange!! Awesome!

The other female has still been stuck in her pot, so let's see what happens. She should herd them out any day now...

They are gone. But the female has another batch of eggs in a cave. I think this tank is a bit big for them actually... I may need to go for something slightly smaller. But as long as they keep doing it, then it should be ok. It usually takes cichlids a few times to get it right. Pity.
