Ammonia removal options

    When you go large, you need to build up a recirculating system like I have, but the complexity of this is such that there is no way that I am even going to try to explain this to you, I would spent hours doing this. I have a number of tanks connected to a central trickle filter and anaerobic filter. I learnt how to build this, by visiting Manfred Goebel in Germany in 1990 and again in 1993, and this is the answer. This is the most economical for electricity consumption and water filtration and purification.

    Trying to do something like this on an individual tank business is going to kill you on electricity costs and you just simply won't have the time and will make your whole discus keeping a major schlepp, there is absolutely no way that I would even consider this. Ongoing water changes also introduce constant instability so I think this is not a good idea.
