Ended up completely nuking the tank (livestock out, all plants on the compost heap).

Adding unscented Jik and heavy dose of excel daily (couple of times a day) to nuke the last clado on the substrate. Stirring etc. What’s amazing is that a few trumpet snails are still alive.

Perhaps tomorrow I’ll drain and refill- letting water sit with heavy dose of Prime/Safe. Repeat. Then start up again with cycled biomedia.

Eventually Livingston the beta will be upgraded to this tank (the son is getting tired of having a tank in his room).

Have started with the planting but a long way to go still. Will steal carpeting plants from the QT etc.

The even smaller tank which is currently in the son’s room will move here also, so thinking of trying to scape them in a similar way- perhaps symmetrical triangle?

Livingston the beta is in his new digs, along with 4 pygmy corys (am on the lookout for more) and a few cherry shrimp & snails.
Now just patience needed for the plants to grow out
Thinking a black background would work?

I was happy to find six more today, they’re in quarantine in the little tank that used to be the beta tank

I had a dozen pygmys in my 2ft - NEVER saw them and assumed most had died off. Saw 8 recently while the lights were off, so I think the little guys mostly hide until lights off.
See far fewer green jade shrimp and I wonder if the pygmys are the culprit? Only a solitary Amano shrimp to blame, otherwise. Weird?
Also had 5 baby otocinclus just vanish. Parameters fine, tank looks good, so who knows :(

Yeah I’ve had those things too as you know. Zero success with the pygmy corys previous round but fingers crossed these okes will do better. So far both batches are outgoing, eating well and active so fingers crossed!

Hope so! I've found their colouration is a good health indicator- they should be 'warm' silver.

I’ll post some pics tomorrow hopefully. Got some black background for both the tanks which I’ll try put on tomorrow.
The little guys seem crisp in colouring, nice sharp contrast between black and silver so that’s a good sign for now I suppose

Moved across the other 6 Pygmy corys today… only 3 weeks quarantine (hope this doesn’t come back to bite me) but they all looked good and I got impatient

So now the tank is fully stocked with 10 pygmys (they’re tiny fish), Livingston the beta, a few cherry shrimp (the beta leaves them alone and they’re free swimming), the last rabbit snail, and 3 amanos.

Excuse the glare. The carpet will take a while to grow in and I haven’t gotten around to putting up the black background yet.

Got a 2nd beta yesterday for the smaller tank. Might need to put in a screen because Livingston noticed his neighbour and is going fairly beserk

Haven’t updated on these tanks in ages. The red betta has been moved to the 65L a long time ago and I moved the purple beta into the 39L with male Endlers and Pygmy corys. Tank is also still clado free, yay!

In the tiny tank I have a few male Endlers.

The plants have done so well - barely enough room for the fish !

Yes indeed! I make extra swim space every now and again- the endlers seem to weave through the plants effortlessly but not always as easy for the beta
