Canisters have their own foibles - more difficult to clean, and also not shrimp safe out of the box. Something like an Aquaclear 20 or 30 with some sponge over the intake would work perfectly, and be super easy to maintain. Doesn't even need to be an air driven sponge filter - small piece of filter foam wrapped around and held in place with cable ties would do the job just as well.

Some photos of my new first fish in the tank, I will need to go get a few more this weekend to up the school sizes as the 2 peppers died.

I did a big water change last night and added some rooibos

So this afternoon I noticed my first shrimplets on their own in the tank, had to zoom a lot to get a decent ish photo.

For some reason my netrite snail has been on strike for the last week, just sitting in the same spot but still moving around in its shell but not moving around tank, any ideas?

    Omg how exciting!
I've been checking mine daily since getting them just waiting to see them berried. But alas I suspect the 2 smaller ones I got that were meant to be males are actually just small females so think I have 5 females and 0 males. Unlikely to get berried anytime soon like that lol.

What I would recommend is that you buy your next batch from a different source, and then once in a while when you just buy 1 or 2 shrimps to ensure you introduce new DNA in to the tank so that inbreeding does not become a problem

Oh no poor snail, @oupoot you need to flip the snail the right way, nerites sometimes cant correct themselves , and congratulations on the shrimp

So my netrite snail died yesterday evening for some reason =(

Today I got an assassin snail and 6 x white clouds, 3 normal, 3 gold/albinos

Would it be better to add 2 x nitrites or 6 x otos considering this is a 60l tank and that I now have an assassin snail?

well it depends on how much algae your tank produces, i had three nerites in my fake 60p and at the end there just wasn't enough algae for them to feed on i had to start feeding the snails :(, so maybe one nerite and see how he cleans the tank you can always increase livestock number if you need more, Ottos I personally don't like them I would rather have a army of nerite snails and shrimp for the cleaning.

Algae I got plenty of, just got over the idea of snails considering i killed one somehow =( Just not sure if otos would work or also be killed as they are sensitive...

Been bouncing around with the idea of either getting one massive tank or like a collec tion of 4 or 6 2fts with diffirent fish in them as I want a puffer tank and a yellow shrimp tank, but also want to try discus lol

thats a hard decision to make , i guess it boils down to what you really want to do first, i would love to keep Discus , it could be a great challenge.

Yeah and they are beautiful, just not compatible with otos...

The idea I have is to build a stand that can tanks side to side and each type of plants and animals, not too sure about costing though, a few small tanks or 1 big tank will all rob me in their own way

i personally would maybe go smaller tanks, it would keep things a bit more fresh as it would be easier to change out tanks with new species or new scapes. and also if you go down the shrimp route you could have multiple tanks for different shrimp.

Yes thats my thinking as well, but 6 x 2ft tank will be pricey to start, but then again I can develop MTS over time instead of getting 6 of each off the bat, the below shopping cart makes it a scary idea

    6 x zetlights
    6 x different substrate
    6 x heaters
    6 x CO2/Ferts
