When doing a nice big cleanup on my tank earlier (somewhat inspired by you) I remembered that in an MD Fishtanks video I watched recently he mentioned he'd been battling string algae in that tank but nowhere else. When he took it apart he realized it was due to a complete lack of water flow in certain areas due to how he'd scaped the tank.
It's also possible maybe that was causing the problem in yours? Definitely a possible culprit in mine (not so much now I've done a big cleanup).
Hopefully your clean out and minor rescape will have helped if that was an issue

Staghorn algae - ugly as sin, but fairly easily manageable, and so pleasing to watch as it dies :)

My algae mainly grows where there is decent water current, I have a Seachom HOB filter as well as well as a 700lph internal that makes replanting a pain as it uproots all the plant usually. its about 70% Current, 30% resting sports for fish

So been a bit busy due to work, have not given my tank too much attention other than trimming the hornwort, feeding and doing water changes.

I had a minnow jumping out of and die a few weeks back in between the glass lid and the 4mm gap at the side, pest snails are back and and assassin seems to be shy this evening.

Here is what is the highlight to me at the moment, my anubias is blooming:

Here hs the upside down experiment with the hornwort, it grew upside down in the soil, did a turn and started growing up again:

Floating plants starting to grow almost as fast as my shrimp colony

So I havent posted any updates for ages, been busy with life and had a disease last week that wiped most of my fish, heres a few photos of the tank with a new light i got yesterday and the plague survivors. Shrimps have been wiped out except for one, got some BBA and some nice seedlings being made the java ferns, but feeling its time for a rescape or a 2nd tank....

Tank’s looking nice and is the plague stabilising? Very stressful when that happens :(

stable in the sense that its killed off all the sick fish, only fish that never looked sick but died of was the minnows, last one just disappeared. snails are also dying out very fast(a good thing about the bug at least i guess)

Keep an eye on your ammonia levels, and nitrites through this period. With lots of stuff dying in the tank balance might easily go out of whack.

Not sure that the shrimp and snails would be affected by columnaris, did the literature say anything about it? With the fish it looked like it.

Any contaminants in the water, I’m thinking along the lines of my recent puppy flee drops incident?

Yeah im planning on doing 2 x 50% water changes today and then dosing meds again, will try to get as many snails as I can vacuumed up, but I dont recall seeing anything about the bug killing off snails\shrimps.

im thinking it may have been a water contaminant as i have not done any big changes to the tank that would have stressed the fish, and shrimps that starting going missing was the start of the problem and I missed it thinking im just not seeing them because they are such a dark blue

It could be unrelated to the fish disease and be that you have planaria going wild in the tank.

Sounds like a good move to me. Could be that a water contaminant killed off shrimp & snails and stressed the fish to a point where they became vulnerable to columnaris?

Honestly i dont know, just really confused at this stage about whats going on, entire tank was full of eggs this morning before I did a WC and more eggs each time i walk past tank after the WC... surely fish don't breed in bad water?

So havent posted in a while, the tank has been a battle the last few weeks, first the fish diseases, now i have a section of plants dying off where old filter was usually places as I replaced the HOB with an Oase Thermo 100(heater a separate battle im waging as well) and added in a Marine Space light and did a DiY c02 (Yeast based, feeds in to the tube, excess bubbles out, if i turn it off the passive tube empties fast as the water flows past out of filter), but the phone camera makes everything look sparkly green so its hard to see on photos...

I restocked tank this weekend as I had Cories, 1 x Neon, 2 x Harlequints and 4 x ottos in tank after allthe fish deaths, photos are not too clear cause most of the fist are quite energetic.

I also got a 2nd 2 ft tank as as I will be moving house in a fe w month time so then ill try a new scape, but my fiance have take a liking to the blue discus after i showed her a few photos and one from LPS bigger than my hand
