That with the remaining work should be good for another week... Hopefully

Think there was a newborn baby in the UK that died too, after being born with Covid-19. That one really got me :(:(

I saw on the news that pet stores are considered as essential and are open.
So I called my LFS to check that they are open. They were, but only for sales of fish food and equipment. But they not allowed to sell livestock because it’s not considered essential. Really? Do not see the logic of that. if they are open, then why not trade as normal. IMO is ridiculous.

Didn’t go in the end. The SO said to me there is no point in potentially being exposed to c v.

Same here, they open for a few hours to feed their fish and are allowed to sell food and equipment but no livestock

I thought Takealot was still operating, recommended a friend order a TDS meter but all suspended until lockdown is over.

He did a total reset of his +-700l 2m tank. Drained, vinegar wipe down of tank and 80l sump, all new lavarock and mixed Aquasoil substrate. Cleaned and dried out FX6 filter, did an H202 treatment on rocks and wood, planted some new stuff, etc.
Then, during lockdown, realised he had no dechlorinator :/ He got the last bottle of Stability in the store, the smallest size, so was up against it with a fresh cycle. The Stability ran out after 2 or 3 days as one can imagine for that size tank.
So, with some fish still in buckets, he had to come by my place (we live a 5 min drive apart) and I gave him a fist sized bag of powersand/ Matrix from one of my tanks, along with a half bottle of my Seachem Safe, and within only 2 days of that going into the FX6, his tests indicated it was cycled.

Only livestock were a couple clown loaches and some huge catfish I'm not familiar with. I mention it as I was quite surprised that it cycled that quickly. All seems fine now.

I’m really glad that it worked out but I’m not sure where you stay here in CPT specifically the southern suburbs you can order for delivery or pickup orders from the LFS if anyone runs into a issue like this again.

Are local LFS doing that? Didn't even think to try but that is great to know, thanks!

Very nice. Just make sure you don't sharpen them just in case the lock down goes on longer than 21 days

Happy to help him out in a bind - I'm just impressed how quickly it did the job! I guess the FX6 is like the heart of the system.
His tank used to be stunning, all top of the line equipment including CO2, but he's a pilot and is away for periods of time.

Kept hearing of problems with the tank, so oneday I went over to see what kind of a job his maintenance guy was doing.
No gravel vacs, 10% water changes a month apart, and that with few healthy plants and NO KH buffer whatsoever (KH 1 out the tap in Sea Point). On top of that, the guy was adding some kind of pH lowering product, lying around since the days of Discus in the tank (and still not sure why it was needed). Recipe for disaster, with fish dying off, blackbeard algae taking hold, etc.
Light cycle all over the place, some bulbs out. Just a total mess, so wrote out a list of things to sort out and this lockdown proved the perfect time to do it, and my friend put in some good hours.

I'm excited to see it come right again, it was part of the inspiration in my getting back in the hobby years ago.

 As I said, you’re a good friend!
PS I would’ve expected a maintenance service company to do a lot better than that...
