That is a good question Ferdie...
I must actually compare hers to the last one @Cesar picked up from his oldest girl .. she is just over three now..
Im sure at some stage the barbs slow down in growth... but will be interesting to see

They look healthy and happy 'touch wood' so i would agree with you there

    Thanks Mark

If I remember right i had her about 7 or 8 months when she dropped the first one that I saw

The second barb starts growing under the existing one and sometimes it takes three or four months before the new barb eventually pushes the old one out
When the old one starts lifting you will also see the skin over it start to go a little whitish and pale. Then you know it wont take long before it drops
Pick it up with tongs as soon as you see it has fallen to avoid the ray hurting herself on it and remember it will be poisonous for a few months so always hold it from the base

Having some spare time on my hands... I was playing around taking some pictures

So... lets's update this thread a bit

I removed the one big piece of wood on the right temporarily to give more free space as we brought the Leopoldi boy from Cesar's tank down to visit Polkadot and see if we strike it lucky
I did witness a touch and go mating but Im not sure if he actually got it right or not so for now he is staying with granny and we keeping our fingers crossed

I moved most of my Datnoids to the pup tank as they dont harm the pups or rainbows and keep the tank cycled at all times. I only left 1 Datnoid the :Dark Knight" which is an IT in this tank as he is a bit of a bugger towards the NTT's and my small IT's

So.. here are a bunch of pictures..

    Thanks @top dog ...
Im pretty angry with myself because Cesar brought him across and i didnt think of taking that big piece of wood out and that's what got in the way and now im not sure if he got it right or if it was a total miss
So just keep all your fingers and toes crossed!!
Hahhaa If it happens, you will be the first to know!!

Two bases are done and they busy adding the floating base which will give me a total of 36mm on the base

    All 3 bases complete

@MariaS why is there 3 bases. I understand the first 2 bases as double base. Bt why is the 3rd base there and it does not look like 1 long piece of glass. Why is it floating base.

@Hooks, the third layer it a floating base, ie various pieces of glass siliconed to the bottom and to each other
I think if i remember right, there are 10 or 11 pieces

The floating base is used mostly on big tanks as it strengthens the base, gives it more flexibility and goes a long way in avoiding a cracked base
Under normal circumstances you could probably do one sheet and the floating base on top but due to the width of the tank and after having had a cracked base on my 2.2m that isnt this wide, i was neurotic I guess
Also the rays are naughty... they move the rocks around and blow under the rocks looking for food.
When they do this if the rocks are not really heavy, they actually mange to lift the rock by blowing under it and the rock then obviously falls back on the base
So I wanted the extra strength to be able to pt heavy rocks if i wanted and not have to worry but like i said, many only do one base and the floating base

You will see I also took no short cuts with my bracing... the 2.2 had also sprung a leak due to not being properly braced
When you go this wide and high, its a lot of pressure

If you looking at tank builds, you can have a look at this thread, tank was built by the same person
