I'm using the something velvet? its used for steel and wood.. they guy says it should stop water from seeping in..its oil based.. i'll take a look tonight..
Was going to say - that's the oine you must use - velvaglo Gives a great finish and is waterproof Mostly used for bathrooms and kitches (and outside wood) Just a tip - you must should use a sponge roller (makes the finish smooth)
thats exactly what im using.. sponge roler is extremely smooth! also the guy at the store said that after aplying, it may look as though there are "bumps" in the paint but after a while it actually evens out! hectic..
and a bit of sanding inbetween coats makes a huge difference! get some fine sand paper (I would go with like 4 coats) I think this is going to be a cool looking atnk when done!!!!! (almost as cool as mine
haha.. yes almost as cool as urs hehe.. i think im only gonna give it 2 coats.. im way too lazy and impatient to paint it another 3 times hehe.. but we'll see.. if im still not satisfied, i'll paint it again! yes zoom thats exactly what it is ---------- Post added at 15:11 ---------- Previous post was at 15:11 ---------- really pricy stuff..
@shihr what has it cost you so far to build the stand? Also are you going to build that light stand as well or get one made for you?
wood +-880 glue +-30 screws +-85 (i bought too much) paint & equipment +-350 hinges +-30 (with drilling) filler +-25 total: +-1400 i borrowed tools from a friend and had the sanding paper already.. not too bad i think.. also i enjoy these projects im going to build my own pendant.. going to buy some alunimium pipes and find some one to bend them for me.. then i'll attach it myself ligths im going to use 4Xt5's
ok so i finally got round to applying the second coat heres a pic.. also i was test fittin the filter goin to hang the doors tom..
Seriously awesome build @shihr - it's been awesome reading the thread and catching up. I can't wait to see what it looks like once your custom lights are in and the water's flowing!
"and find some one to bend them for me" ... you could try the guys that do exhaust fitting - they should have a pipe bender not sure about the diameter. BTW looking good ..
thanks f-fish, will look into it.. ok so here we go.. doors hung: didnt paint the insides of the door because i might redo them.. they really squiff and irritate the heck out of me!! oh well, all in all it turned out pretty well me thiknks i did a small test to see how it held up.. i lay on top of it and it held my weight (93kgs) even though thats not the full load its going to take, i rocked it abit and it was 100% solid so i hope.. also, when i lay on it there were pressure points stressin areas.. the tank should spread the load evenly u know ur a fish tank/ aquatic freak when u move out the comp table and replace it with a 4ft fish tank & stand hahaha..
thanks zoom.. i really hate the doors though.. im defn going to redo them.. really squff.. i guess thats what you get trusting the hardware shop to drill holes for you...
ive adjusted the doors for more than 2hrs.. the doors are strait but i think they messed up the drilling of the holes on the doors.. the guy just sorta measured and then drilled.. "he even says to me later, you can adjust the hinges so it shouldn be a problem!" but it was!! it may also be my lack of experience as well when i drilled the holes to attach the door to the stand.. maybe.. i dont know..
With the black-on-black, you don't really pick up the squiffness of the doors. Is it cut sqew, or are the just lying sqew? Could you adjust the hinges? (Any Engrish teachers out there must be quinging at all the lovely spelling in this post.... "squiffnes" "sqew" "quinging")
