    @hviviers75, I think that it would be a good source of light for your tank. You may only need 2 lights instead of 3 because I found the light to be pretty strong. The joy with doing something like this is the fact that you can either increase or decrease your light intensity with adding extra light fittings or decreasing the wattage of the globes that you use.

    The only thing that I do recommend when doing lights in this manner that you make sure to keep these globes and fittings dry or all that will happen is that you will blow the globes regularly.

    a piece of nice clear perspex or glass slider would make all the difference.

    @mydummyname, thanks.

    I actually fitted smaller pieces of glass to the insides of my tank glass and then had glass cut to fit just inside my tank to sit on the side pieces, firstly to stop the amount of evaporation and secondly to protect the globes and light fittings that I installed. I do have the step by step if you need me to post them. HTH

    Yip they are harmless, but as soon as your fish see them, they will be food

    Hydra can apparently catch fry if the fry is small enough and the hydra large enough.
