i had 4 of these in a 100L - 900mm tank and it worked very very well, even got good plant gtrowth, but when i tried 6 of them in my 240L -1200mm tank, it just doesnt work, cant penetrate to the bottom of the tank, my plants are suffering for it and the tank is not very bright, looks ok, but nothing like what it should. i'd say get a proper 1,5m fluorescent fitting with 2 or 3 x 58w T5 tubes.

@DewaldC, @Skye01's idea will work very well in a 100L

@DewaldC - I suppose if your plants aren't dying and you are happy with the growth then stick to what you have. With more lights comes other problems. Your plants grow quicker using more nutrients which means you will have to dose more often. And you get algae!

@Skye01; @mydummyname - Do those tornado bulbs come in brighter/different versions. The one I can see is in the 2700k light spectrum which everbody says is too low for plants to grow?

@byronb - Thanks. I have been looking at an alternative to the 8w 4000k flourescant I currently have in my 12l. I think I will do a hood mod and fit a few of those. Are they sold at the likes of Builders or specialist light shops?

Phillips Genie and Tornado come in warm white (2700), Cool white (+-4000k) and Cool daylight (6400K.) You want the daylight one for a fish tank.
