    try using a very wide neck vacuum, the suction is less powerful so hopefully it wont suck up a lot of sand.. i've noticed that with the narrow vacuum neck it sucks hectically powerful.
    you can test this by doing a gravel vac with out the nozzle, i.e., only the narrow pipe and you will see it even sucks up pfs... but when you add the neck it only sucks the surface poo and waste.

    i have the biggest vacuum and if i really do a hard vac i suck up pool filter sand almost way to the tot. so maybe if you vacuum very light with it

    lol hope it helps, but i'm sure it wont be too bad, and as @Ryno says if it is a problem, just go lightly :)

    the power head you want to add will also help the muck to float to surface where it can enter the sump chamber thingy you have..

    Hey @DewaldC, Looks good. What is the flow rate of the sump.

    For the powerheads you get some high output powerheads with flow valves. So If you buy a unit like that you can decide how strong the flow should be. Instead of buying a unit that is too strong and can't set the flow rate or the other way around.

    yep you do get them... our lfs here in cape town sells them for about R60, its a no name brand, the powerhead itself is green in color... i didnt know you wanted to put it in the chamber itself tho.. thought it would go in the main tank..

    Don't be too surprised if you see a tank almost identical.... pshh not me of course, never:rolleyes: Just kidding. :laugh: but it is a really good setup. So in the "island" do you have like flourite or ADA Aquasoil or something?
