No it doesnt leech into the wood kills al the nastys on the wood.
i just put the wood in the swimmingpool for a month. then they are fine. you dont need to boil the wood. the wood isnt form acriver or something...
mopani wood leeches tannins for quite a long time. if its small enoug to fit in a pot boiling it will help alot

Will take photos this weekend and enter. The scape isnt worthy for totm in my opinion.
Also remeber that that 1000lph is when the canister is empty more like 800lph with filter media. Also plants doesnt meen you need less filtration.
