Sounds like a good move to me. Could be that a water contaminant killed off shrimp & snails and stressed the fish to a point where they became...
Keep an eye on your ammonia levels, and nitrites through this period. With lots of stuff dying in the tank balance might easily go out of whack....

To me it doesn’t look like columnaris but more fungal, like @Reedfish said. I’m no disease expert though

Yes on those pics it does seem like it unfortunately. Seachem Kanaplex asap to save the corys and other unaffected fish, repeat in 2 days time
