ther is more than one way to do it. i like having 2 oveflow pipes each with their own ballvalve. easier to get the overflow tuned in and running...
i drilled two 25mm holes for the overflow and 2 25mm holes for the return.
i like drilling the side. can build a smaller overflow box and its easier to run quiet. drawback is the plumbing on the side or back of the tank....
get the drill bit. take it slow keep it cool with water. ive drilled my marine tank that had a 24mm floating base. drill my sumps ect.
yeah after reading the thread it makes sense. when i get tanks they usually have a floatong base twice as thick as the fromt and side panes. also...

i am a fan of dosing bacteria products for the first few months it really helps the tank age better amd keep it more stable in the first few months

yeah and sump can house alot more bio media. imo water flows better through media in a sump than in a canister so better filtration. think about...

any rainbows are nice to keep. they do jump so a little lower water level for a open top tank. they will come in again sometime with imports....
