I checked at the shop and some of the tanks are like that too. They told me I need to get thick hardboard or marine-ply for the base.

I went to a LPS (panorama) and talked to somebody about it. He said that since it's 6mm glass it shouldn't be a prob but the wood it stands on...

With the new lights and stuff hopefully the plants at the back will make a nice natural BG.
I can't do it right around - I have that hang-on filter and the heater cables would be messy.

Ah ok sw33t. How thick should the brace be? My tank has 6mm thick glass. Sould I make the euro bracing sides 8mm and the middle brace 6mm maybe?...

I see what you mean and it makes sense, but won't the middle brace cut off some light, and throw a slight shadow in the middle of the tank?
So this it what I'll do. Just 2 long strips of (8mm?) glass running down the length of the tank at the top. This should be done with aquatic...
