It turns a dull brown/black when the water is to hot for it. As soon as you turn down the temp it starts up again.
@chonkie: Anything warmer than 24 and moss will struggle to grow.
@Chongkie: I am guessing it is because they are in an area with high amounts of nutrients and flow.

@Chongkie: As I understand it high tech plants are those that require a high amount of light and ferts.
