Found some beautiful Betta's in the local pet shop on Friday (not often that we see females) so decided to get some even though I didn't know much about them. Did a lot of research when I got home and was surprised to find that they are labyrinth fish (just like the gourami that I adore). Checking on them this afternoon I discovered that the male has already started to build a Nest. So excited

Power is about to go off, will load pics when we come back on

Grats on the find. Are you housing the male and female(s) together currently?

yes we have 4 of them in 45cm tank, from what I read online you can have 3 - 5 females together and they will sometimes shoal but ours keep to themselves.

All betta female tank is called a "sorority". Minimum would be 5-6. In my experience, Ive never had any luck maintaining one for an extended period. There is constant fighting and never ends well for the girl on the bottom of pecking order. However, your mileage may vary. Males should NEVER be housed with a female unless trying to breed. Even then, you need to do it properly to minimize injury to either betta.

thanks for the advise, will definitely keep a close eye on them. Luckily we have enough tanks so that if they start becoming aggressive we can split them up
