    Hi All, one of my smaller discuss has a slightly bloated belly, i have searched and google and the response is saying 1 teaspoon of epson salts per 37 litres is this a good treatment ?
    Any other suggestions i have tried taking a pic buts its not coming out very clear.
    Temp is 29 and the other 3 discuss are all fine.

    Hi @Donny

    That's correct, 1 Teaspoon (5g) per +- 40L of water.

    Do you feed them bloodworms?

    No, haven't fed them bloodworms. I have them about a month and have only been feeding them Tetra Prima. (Red granules). They have however also devoured all my shrimp....

    They just cannot resist them.

    Try and get them some seachem frozen bloodworms. It also acts as a mild laxative.

    Keep us posted! !

    Will get some and try that tomorrow. Do I defrost first, or feed it in frozen form?

    As always, any topic is debatable lol, but Ive been feeding my discus bw in frozen form for years without any problems :)

    Have you added the epsom salts yet?

    Blood worms should help - thaw first.

    Unfortunately, I have found that often, if bloat is at an advanced stage, it is too late :cry:

    Hi guys

    Im convinced that 9 out of 10 times bloat is caused by Dry food.
    I obviously havent got proof but I am convinced of this via previous experience. Thats why I dont like feeding Tetra Prima to Discus
    I feed a high fat granule only and it has an oily texture. Ive never had bloat issues with this.
    Increase bloodworm feeding as others have said. Lets hope there is no bacterial infection as yet as that is what eventually gets the fish.

    Keep up with water changes and keep the epsom.salt levels high. You can increase the dosage to double the dosage you have used. But unfortunately if it doesnt poop....its not gonna make it

    @Marco,

    Does Danziger not feed their Discus exclusively on Prima?
    I am assuming that if it caused problems, they wouldn't do it?

    Hi @Reedfish,

    They use to yes Frank.
    One thing that must be kept in mind here though is that Danziger use to run a parasite free operation.
    So all the fish whilst in the Danziger hatchery was kept free from intestinal parasites, which I think made a big difference.

    Thanks for all the input, I will try and get frozen blood worm tonight. The Epsom salt treatment I will continue, but do I do a water change before dosing again ? and I have clown loaches and ancitrus in the tank as well will they be affected negatively by the salt? What other shelf food can I try for my discus?

    The little guy is looking normal again, fed them blood worms for the last two nights, and he seems much slimmer and back to normal size. i have gave them seachem discus flakes this morning.
    Also got discus vitamins at the store last night, was explained to soak the granules in this before feeding them and will help for future health.

    @Donny,
    Pleased to hear your fish has improved.

    Going forward, try feed a mixed diet of the blood worms, mysis, shredded shellfish etc.
