Boyu SP 102-1200 Powerhead question.

Firstly is it worth the purchase? They currently have it on special at Builders Warehouse for R160 including all the fittings ect. Secondly do you get any filter attachments (Like a filter cartridge) for it separately that I can use it as a mechanical filter?

If you added a sponge attatchement to the inlet it would become mechanical filter. But I think it's mostly for water movement in the tank.

 

Thanks Zoom, yes the general idea is for it to move water from point A to point B. I just figured I might add a bit of mechanical filtration too it.

 

There are mechanical filters available at your local LFS, or try our sponsors.
They have a perforated black (2 halves) casing, with sponge inside, and are about the size of a tin of beer! @ around R15/20 each.

 

I have a boyu SP 103-2400 pushing just under 2000l/h. Great flow. It's been running for about 6 months with no problems.
The 102-1200 pushes 1200L/h.
The only thing I don't like about the Boyu SP is that the surface area it pulls water in is very small and easily gets blocked up restricting the flow.
Compare this model to others that are 19w or similar wattage. Calculate the flow to watt ratio, as you looking for the most efficient pump to liter, As these things run 24/7/365

 

My old time favourite is the dolphin 2000 submersible filter.
