Altum or not ?

    Hi, want to find out is this a true altum or just a look alike because as u can see its labeled as altum but its also say its pterophyllum scalare Var. So I'm a bit confused here

    Tough one, I am 50/50 on this one. Better pic of the tail might have helped. Looks close though.

    80% certain it is. Agree better picture of tail will help. The head-shape, body shape and striping, are those of an Altum.

    Why the question? Is this one for sale somewhere?

    @iamdieter saw it on a website of a lfs here in CPT that I'm gonna be visiting soon but we'll see when I have a more close up view of them

    Fish-ETC got their pictures from the internet.
    The pictures on their website is not a reflection of the fish they sell.:(

    Oh well, that is just sad. Some of these shops and there advertising schemes to get us interested, especially the newer fish owners, Just so they can make a quick buck hey

    If there were real altums on sale somewhere in SA I think everybody will know pretty quickly.

    Real Altums are difficult to get hold of here in the UK.
    And are very expensive. So you will know by the price.

    Yeah, true hey. Was really interested because I'll be starting a angelfish only tank and gonna start breeding them and know a good deal of info of the genetics(doing biology&did my research) Think I'll stick to scalare and its different colour morphs rather for now. And thanks guys for your help

    Oh, I actually had one, he was starting to breed but then he died:( but definately getting me again

    did have one but the hi fin pangasius ate it, have 3 of those black lace angel fish though
