So at long last the time for this little project has arrived!

The part marked in yellow is about 1,8m wide (from the wall to the edging) and the main section about 2m long (excluding that possible little extension). So unfortunately still pretty compact.

Plan on starting tomorrow by removing the plants and our gardener can start digging. The area in blue is where I think the pond should go (my current 150L molded plastic one), sunken. The idea is to dig everything out about 75cm deep, layer with river sand (to protect the pond liner), lay out pond liner, put pond in place, fill the rest back up with soil.

Won’t have any circulation but I’m not too worried about it as the pond has been running like that all along with the plants providing more than adequate filtration. Am a bit worried that heavy winter rains might flush the fish (white clouds) out of the pond, as the pond has been under the patio roof thus far...

    Input would be much appreciated!

Aiming for a miniature version of this, using almost exclusively indigenous plants (from existing pond & other little containers, plus those @Zuraki gave me, and stuff I already have in the garden.

So thinking the costs would be limited to pond liner, river sand and labour?

You can't be doing all of this and not upgrading the size of the pond at the same time:lol:

I think this will look fantastic. Perhaps you could move it along the wall, where there are no pipes etc?
You could even try some of your carnivorous plants in there. In particular the Sarrecenias

I am planning something similar for my pond which I will hopefully be putting together in a few months time.

Thanks @Reedfish yes great idea! Most of the carnivorous plants (not the nepenthe) have been in a tub with other plants meant for the bog garden since beginning December and they seem to be doing well?

We’re digging down around the concrete structures to see what they are and if they can be removed. The square one at the back is a water meter connected to a pipe, but the other ones may simply be left over from some long gone project

How about raising the edge of the pond above ground level with bricks, put in the liner and add nice rockwork around the perimeter to hold down and hide the liner, then at least the rain water shouldn't wash the fish out....and it gives you a lot of extra water volume, this should also stop lots of debris getting washed or blown into the system.
Going to look cool, cant wait:thumbup:

What if that concrete is an old pond that was there years ago and then covered? Imagine that

@GaryG great thanks! Yes raising it at least a bit sounds like a good idea, will do so!

Ooh I like the TNT idea @Whoknows

@Shabir yes I feel like an archaeologist. However I haven’t done any of the digging myself

The long concrete bar is probably the foundation for a previous boundary wall.

The black pipes are sprinkler pipes, easy to move.

The red pipe (only a bit showing) is for water supply to the house so this should stay in tact. It’s 50cm below ground level so the deepest we can go at that point.

The plastic pond is only 35cm deep in any case so should be fine...

The square hollow pillar in front can probably go.

    Another oopsie :)

There’s a tap down in the shaft in front, seemingly connected to the red pipe. Was half filled in with soil.

So that has to stay, I’ll just put the bird bath back on top again

Your CP are looking good. Except the biggest Sarrecenia. It should be producing new pitchers now.
It seems to be sulking. Perhaps needs some fresh soil
