    Hi all

I am doing a bit of research on Zeolite and the possible combination thereof with an antimicrobial substance.

Who uses Zeolite on an ongoing basis? Or, do you use it only to remove excess ammonia in emergencies or to remove meds?

    All input welcomed...

I have read that using in in a tank that is still cycling stunts the growth on your biological filter and that it should only be used in emergencies to allow your biological filter to build up as needed.

I use a small quantity of Zeolite in my filter as part of my filtration setup. Restock every 3 months only and I do water changes weekly. How does the zeolite have a negative impact on my water? Just like to know coz I've been doing this for some time and the quality of my water is excellent. My filter is stocked as follow. From bottom to top.

25 - 30 grams ziolite, small piece of filter floss , ceramic rings, spunge and filterfloss again. Do note that I have a internal Dophin TF800 filter so there are 2 compartments where the ziolite is in the bottom compartment and the ceramic rings in the top compartmet

I don't know why they say that its not good for long term use on an established tank. To me it seems okay, the only guess I have would be that it interferes with the natural breakdown of the waste by your bio filter by absorbing some of your bio filter's food? I know it works that way when the bio filter is still being established.
