    So I set up a 30cm tank outside to see what would happen. (larvae/algae...) Filled it with water on Saterday, added some squishy leaves from the river. And I just found a whole lotta bloodworms wriggling in there! @TankMaster... my icecream tub experiment didn't produce anything! Isn't nature great?!!

    Heh! "Just add water!!" lol

    Thats awesome Tracy! Fish go real crazy for live food. Just make sure you don't get any dragonfly larvae into your tank, those guys will attack your prized fish.

    @Fluffy - most probably is...

    Bloodworms are the larval stage of Gnats - typicly a 1 to 1.5cm long segmented deep red worm...
    Just a word of caution before you collect from a dam or natural river source - easy way of introducing all kinds of nasty parasites to your tank... rather did what Tracy did and culture them where there are no wild fish about carrying all kind of nasties...

    PS: If your "wormy stuff" was thin,threadlike and occured in large agregations with one end embedded in the soil/mud - these are Tubifex worms - a great snack,but usualy only found in water that carries a heavy biological polution...AVOID!!!
