Xingu Discus on offer

Hi to all members,

For the past couple of months I have been in negotiation with a Discus breeder in Europe in order to import some of his Discus. It has now reached the stage where I have to make final arrangements for the import, hence the reason for this thread.
As I am not a commercial dealer, my sole reason for this import is to get the fish for my own collection. To import only the 12 fish I want will cost the same as importing a full box of 50, with the difference only that the cost of the venture can be off-set against a higher tally of fish. This logically brings the individual cost down drastically.

The reason for this thread then is to offer any interested members a chance at obtaining some of these fish. I am not intending to make commission on this, so any fish purchased will be at landed cost. I intend being completely transparent about this so no fingers are pointed at a later date.

I will post a few pics of the actual parents of these fish. The estimated landing cost will be between R370 and R400 a piece, and they will be 6-7cm in size. I cant "fix" a landed price with our Rand being what it is.
These guys are from three different pairs, and are either F1, F2 or F1 crossed back to Wild.

For those that do not know what Xingu Discus are-they are Discus found in the Xingu River only. They have had absolutely no mixing of genetics with any other Wild discus and were recently proven worthy of being classed as a "type" of its own. Im not sure if this has been accepted as yet, but the name Symphysodon Xingu has been suggested. The next sad yet interesting part is of course that these fish very realistically face extinction in the near future with the Bella Monte dam under construction in the Xingu River.

Beauty is relative I suppose, but few Discus are more beautiful than Xingu's. They are known for their yellow bodies, their almost perfect round shape and prominent black halo

One thing I neglected to add, and this will hopefully spur some into deciding - 24 are definitly taken, and a further 8 await confirmation. That leaves only 18 fish for possible takers.

Yes these will land at Jhb International (OR Tambo....).

Im now awaoting allocation figures and arrival date, but for now it seems as if the planned 50 have all got homes.

Hi guys,

So finally today I collected 50 Xingu discus from the airport. What a stressfull experience....
They all made it here alive and in very good condition, thanks to excellent preperation and care by the breeder.
Within 4 hours of being in their new home they were all eating and showing no sign of "jet-lag".

Oh wow - mom looks so stunning... that shape! Congratulations on your "brood"!

 

Firstly, I'd like to say Thank You to @Marco for allowing us the opportunity to be part of this import! My 6 are looking good. Still very shy at the moment, but slowly coming out of their shells! They are stunning, but still quite small!

I am so glad to have been able to get my paws on some of these little guys! They really are going to be awesome adults!

Now to find a food that they don't mind eating!! They've pecked at some of the different food varieties, but I'm hoping the brine shrimp get's them feeding nicely. A little stressful at the moment!!
