So...before i go and hack away a section of my house...and my tank, i thought i'd get some input into this "project" i've been wanting to join 2 tanks for a while now (got a suggestion from ace for a water bridge...i might still go this route if the other one is not feasible) anyways...i have a 1.8m existing tank.......i'll be getting something along the lines of a 2m (or even 2.5)......it will be formed into a L shape when complete and go into a corner. What i want to do is take the end off the existing 1.8 and have them waterjet cut a hole into it (its 450mm X450mm...probably a circular hole)...then waterjet the same size hole into the front (or back panel) of the new tank (at the end).....then silicone the 2 tanks together in a corner......i figured that doing this will still give them plenty strength, since you effectively dont "lose" the strength from those panels thoughts..........
Have the left and right end of each tank cut at 45 degree angle greater or less depending on your preference. Then also have the glass on the these ends either cut into big square or round holes like you said, so that it sought of resembles bracing. Then you can join the 2 tanks with silicone. I am not sure if this is what you meant, but it would be better, the water bridge idea is cool, have seen a few but how do you clean it, you would practically have to climb into the tank. I llike this idea very unique, only one other thing, have a stand custom made to fit so that both sides would be of equal height preventing unecessary flex, where one tank is higher than the other
The only problem that I can see that you might have is that when you want to move the tank is how do you do it.
riyadh, your idea is good...i was just going to join them on the flat sections...i like the 45 degree thought to it....then just have a hole cut into the center. Stand will be custom made to join the 2 (the current stand i have is custom made too...welder friend did it for me...total overkill..its massive 50mm square tubing....but he got me the 18m of tubing for R150 so no problems) johan....moving it will be a problem yes...thats why i dont intend to ever do that...its going to be permanent. i intend tiling that area of the house, so thought.....permanent installation ,must just convince the wife i need that space
cool, hope it works out, make careful measurements, also post pics when complete, and pics with stock in
this is great ! you will never be able to move it so if the wife if cool then go for it . think about filtration and geting water flow through the tunnel effectively . will be great to see the end result
yeah, for the tunnel maybe use a wave maker, fit it in the cut out, this way water will move from one side to the other and back
