    Hi there

Is it just in one of your fish? If so, try to isolate the fish from any others. While this doesn't guarantee the safety of your other fish, you can do this in the hope you've caught it early. Keep an eye on the other fish. At the end of the day, you'd probably want to treat all your fish as it's quite likely to have been picked up by your other fishes.

I would recommend a Fenben-based product (Fenbendazole), unsure of Prazi or Metro effectiveness on roundworms, truthfully. Ask your vet about availability of products.

I agree with @SalmonAfrica , dont think Prazi or Metro will do it
I have read several articles where Nitrofurazone/Kanamycin has been recommended

I have never had to treat myself but as i said, its what i have read

You can get Kanaplex from Seachem

Yes, you right, it should do it as well

Just be prepared for very cloudy water during the treatment period

Your vet should help in smaller doses.
Van Der Walt pharmacy in Meyerton usually stock or will order for you, just ask for the small bottle

It needs to be fed orally. To get a better idea of dosage, we need to know what species are affected, their approximate size (so we can guesstimate their weight).

To dose orally, you'll need to add it to a food mix at the dosage ratio of meds:food. I don't believe fenben is particularly tasty, so you might want to mix in some garlic to this concoction.

Feeding should take place over several days, and make sure that the fishes eating the mixture completely each time.

So once we get these parameters, we can get started on dosages.

Any update on the status of the fish? More worms spotted? Are they bloating at all? Other fishes affected?

Unless you're going to do an immersion (mixing it in with the water). I'm not too familiar with this method (never done personally), but be aware that it might affect your biological filter.

I would not use that panacur product. It's not designed for use in an aquarium.
I once used bird medicine on my fish, and it ended in disaster. Lesson learned.

Rather use one of the specific aquarium dewormers suggested above by @MariaS

I have never had to do it either but i have read that it can be used in the water column at a dosage of 0.1gram (22% fenbenzadole ) for 50 gallons water safely
They do say keep lights off as much as possible for 24 hours then do a water change

As I said, i have never had a worm problem so i have never used it myself
I have only ever used prazi on our adult rays every few months as a preventative measure

I have used Kusuri in the past, but apparently it is not Ray safe.

I think NT Labs also make a dewormer, but have never used it.

    @MariaS

I seem to recall Tremazol being suggested for use with Rays. My 2 were treated in qt before I got them and have always seemed ok in my tank, so have never used this product.

Panacur has been used for fish in many instances, including in some aquaculture settings. It's pretty widely available. It's unfortunate what did happen to your fish, but medicines can work very differently in aquatic environments according to various factors including pH, temperature, species etc. As far as I am aware (but will run this by my higher-ups), fenben isn't so affected.

Which source is this? As far as I'm aware you need to do a prolonged immersion (at a higher dosage) for several weeks for the medication to be effective. Bear in mind that you're targeting an organism in the gut - if the medicine is treated in the water column, it may take some time for the chemicals to reach therapeutic levels in the targeted tissues. Additionally, fenben only affects stages of the nematode life cycle that are not encysted. Too short a treatment will miss the encysted life stages, and the parasite will persist.

I dont have all the sources noted down as, i have my own book which i have been updating for a number of years and i add information that i might need at some time in the future however, i do remember one of the sources was the discus forum

Dose for 3 days, wait 2 weeks and dose for three days again

Some recommend making up the dose, soaking the food and then throwing the food and the water with the panacur where the food was soaked into the tank
If I was treating, this is what I would do

Again as i said, i have never used it as its never been necessary
I keep a routine of doing my tanks twice a year with metro and praziquantel
New additions get done with both as well
This is what has worked for me
