I am setting up a new tank for a Betta. Only has plants and bladder snails in at the moment. Is pretty close to being cycled (4 weeks) and I'm about to start looking for a Betta.

These worms have appeared though in the gravel. If they are harmless I am happy to leave them be, but don't want to expose a new fish to something harmful.

What are they? Can I leave them be? If not, how can I get rid of them?

Im not sure what those worms are, I have seen them before while soaking wood outdoors without a cover on the lid.

Im not sure what the other members thoughts are, but I would try adding salt to the tank, but the kind you buy at LPS (Not table salt) and see if it kills the worms in a day or 2 and then to a big water change every 2 days to make sure I get the salt out without losing the cycling process

If that doesnt work i would wash all the equipment in bleach and give a proper rinse and then restart the tank

Could be tubifex or something similar. Where does the substrate come from? And what plants are in there. Tubifex are sort of like earthworms and will eat detritus..
More info on where the plants and substrate came from may help (although not looking to name and shame any suppliers)

If they are tubifex worms the fish will eat them. They are not harmful and will serve as good protein actually.

Those are blood worms - miggie larvae. They are harmless and your fish will eat them. Often I get them in my mosquito bucket and scoop them to feed my fish.

The new Betta will have a feast then and at least you dont need to redo the tank

Harmless bloodworms, your Betta will chow them given the chance.

Thanks everyone. I think I’ll take a chance and keep a really close eye on things when I get my betta and make sure he’s eating them.

My suspicion is they came in with some floating plants from a plant nursery pond.

Even if the betta does not eat them, they are harmless.
