Hey, my mollie just had her second batch of fry since I've owned her. I was lucky enough to see her getting them (first time I've seen such a thing) But i have a few Questions. She was very big . Knowing she's pregnant i moved her to her own 60l with 3 ottos. She had about 60+ fry and 20+ eggs. This is allot more then her first batch.
    1. I want to know why are there still eggs when they are live breeders.
    2. Why are some eggs white and some yellow where you can still see the eyes ( unfertilized and dead eggs/embryos??)
    3. Why do some fry look normal and others have red bellys.

Looks like only 3 died + eggs. Rest are all swimming apply and I'm setting up the brine shrimp hatchery (I seem to fail with this allot)

What I know is probably scary, but from what I've read is that you need to check her and only move her as soon as she starts dropping the fry. If you move her before the time she gets a shock and will drop the fry immediately. That's where the eggs come from. Otherwise she should go full term with all the fry alive. Do you have a male with her? Other thing is that she would only be able to give offspring 4 - 5 times after being with a male (they keep the sperm in them)

Then on the feeding. Try getting micro worms, my guppies go crazy for them and grow at a amazing speed.

congrats. I will not worry too much, 60 fry is plenty from a molly. Its just the fact that you were there to witness this. If you didn't see it you would have never known. Most live bearers do end up dropping some eggs and some pre developed fry cos they cannot hold the fry that are ready to be dropped and longer. I agree with ace on the issue of moving her. A sudden change in water temp will cause her to drop the fry.

Saving Fry: Molly fry taste good to other fishes, although they start life much larger than most livebearers. If you want baby mollies, you need to keep your eyes open. Healthy females release live fry every eight weeks. Give your expectant mom a well-planted 10-gallon tank so the babies can hide. Mollies often give birth prematurely, if you move them less than two weeks before their regular due date.

    Livebearer Molly

So expect more fry in 8 weeks
