We don't measure volumes in quarts/gallons/imp.gallons/us gallons... nah, we're happy with plain simple litres...
it's a whole lot easier! (has anyone measured their volume by inches recently?) So WHY does everyone describe their tank in FEET?

There's certain terms that will stick around for as long as fishkeeping has been around...

    How tall are you= 5 ft 10''
Build me a 6 foot wall.

These things will always be around.

Because these were the standard units of measurements back in the day - when the first tanks were made, this was the way they measured them. It was also a convenient size for each one, working in foot-long intervals. The name has stuck since then.
