Yip I could not agree MORE - life's too short to make your own fish tank. Never again. Bloody silicone everywhere, impossible to get the corners neat and straight - even managed to get clothes full of silicone and also the steering wheel of my car - had to rush to hardware store half way thro the gluing.......no no no NEVER again.
The only thing I really learn't was that thinners is a great way to get old silicone off - works like a bomb.

Small update on the fry. There's only 5 kribs left not sure what happened to tbe others :(

The birchardi had another 40 babies last week so I'm growing them out in the 2 foot tank that was going to be planted.

The male decided that he wanted to beat up the female on Sunday until she was almost dead :( I've put her in the shrimp tank yesterday hope she makes it her fins are badly torn up and she has injury on one eye.

Too many ups and downs lately hopefully the tanks become 100% soon

Thank you I hope so too.

All is not lost the kribs have laid again. Think I'll need a fish farm soon.

Unfortunately, not sure why fish are so mean a times o_O

Anyway I have started treating my QT tank where she is in with Waterlife Myxazin (Malachite Green) hoping this helps her heal better.

Have plecos in the QT tank too they going though QT before going into the 4ft so will have to do half dose of the meds from tomorrow

Is using a 'half dose' of any medication not defeating the whole object of the exercise of why you are treating them ??? Galf oses - will eventully lead to the organisms becoming resistant to that type of medication, as has already happened with things like Metronidazole - who used to be a life saver med

Agreed but some fish especially scaleless ones like catfish(pleco) and loaches are very sensitive to meds and I've made this mistake once already land lost 15 fish from it, don't want that experience again
although I decided this time it would be better to move the pleco and use the full dosage

Ah no! Is it the cost of ferts or the cost of plants or both? Can’t there be ways to get around some of it? Getting trimmings / trading etc? Low tech plants that don’t require much ito fertilizer?

Its partially the ferts because my LFS doesn't stock the scape range, will look into online ordering maybe that's an idea

Also Ryan recommended using organic potting soil but I've heard that can cause other issues and it makes chocolate milk  if something is uprooted (still want to do more research here though)

Also I really wanted to do the high tech side it has the most appeal to me, most low tech plants I could probably grow in the 4ft community so no need for another tank (haha who am I kidding I'll always want more)

When I first started out someone on here told me using organic soil isn't a good idea purely cause of the chocolate milk issue, incase of uprooting or just accidentally mixing it up when cleaning and all that. Plus he warned me about parasites that might come along with the soil

Yes full on high tech can get very expensive very fast. Why don’t you ease into it with some low tech plants in the community tank? You might be surprised by how nice a low tech tank can be and build/save up for later? Nothing wrong with low tech imo but I know you want to grow them red plants

Didn't know it could bring parasites... I was told it can cause algea and anaerobic areas since its not meant to be submerged but I'm going to google and see how many times that's acctually happend

I'm thinking of putting a terracotta pot with some proper plant soil into the 4ft and see how that goes with the plants I have already, do you think it will work? I wanted them red plants I got some from @Amakawa too but they not red anymore

Sure, won’t be necessary for all plants, only for some root feeders and carpeting plants. Do you have aquasoil already or will you have to buy it?
Can you jot down a list of your plants then we can take a look?
