I think they all ugly. And they will eat you out of house and home! My sister-in-law has a bearded dragon, and I was SHOCKED at how much you need to feed the things.

I suppose they do eat a lot. And yes, permits are a mission!

I'm more into the snakes side of things, but those are some cool lizards, dolphin!

just look at the efects of plants like the hyacinth on our water bodies?

And birds like the Indian Myna....

dammit henk your defnitley loyal to SA.

O and sory for jacking the thread

Gaawie, why don't you PM Shakes. He's kept/bred a lot of snakes over the past 15 years or so, although he has cut back on them big time since his little bundle of terror arrived. There's a chance that he might be able to hook you up with a pair.

I agree, you get the people who bitch and moan, usually getting quite insulting about Cape nature, not realizing that while they may be able to handle animal x, Joe down the road may not, and that for every 1 of them, there are 10 Joes. While certain restrictions may seem stupid, people need to realize that the world does not revolve around them, and that if it did, the country would be overrun with Joes unwanted/escaped animals...

    I don't really know. DO fish...? :p

    Aaaah, nice, thanks Scholsed ;)

    Ah! Shame dude, sucks!

I'm in Cape Town, he's in Wilderness. If I'm not mistaken that is a bit of a distance.... Thanks though!

There's been reports in our local community paper about Boa's and corn snakes being found in parks all over the western seaboard 'hoods. Bothasig, Edgemead, Table View, Parklands etc.... its a massive issue. Expect CapeNature and DEAT going into lock down mode soon

In many ways I agree with the legislation set out by conservation in the western cape. It discourages people from keeping reptiles and animals as a status or image booster, it also protects the reptiles from being kept in poor conditions and from perishing when the glamour and interest is lost when supposidly keeping a "dangerous creature", which happens alot.

Gaawie if you need any help or advise just ask.

Even here in Pretoria my son gets a lot of calls to remove snakes -most of them either boa, corn or ratsnakes.
Once in a while either a cobra or brown house snake.

Wouldn't Corns and Boas not really be able to survive our climate? Why aren't there colonies of them, like the foreign snakes that have taken over the everglades...?

Our climate is very similar to the Corn's habitat.
As for why there are not Colonies yet..............
Not enough sexually mature snake escaped .
The smaller Corns and Ratsnakes are escape artists!
Wait a few years and we might have a problem!
