    Good evening lady and gentlemen

Alittle back ground. I’ve moved to new house and kept some of my drift wood in the pond before setting up my new tank st the new house. No I’ve set up my tank 5 weeks back with clean tap water and did a 50% WC 2 weeks back
I’ve got one fish and 4 shrimp in at the moment and never feed him except throwing a few misquote in every second day to give him something to chew on.
    It’s a 500liter tank. Temp is 22 degrees.
Since yesterday I’ve noticed small white worms on the glass and small white dots that swims in a radical motion almost like blood worms. Last week for the first time in my life I’ve noticed bloodworms in my sump filter.

    What can it be?

Don’t think it’s planaria as they are to small they about 3mm long and hair size diameters. So I assume it’s is Detritus coming from the pond.
But what is the white dots swimming around? To small to take photo.

Has anybody ever had blood worms in there tank before? Breeding on the own without throwing live stock in?
Can the white swimming things be baby bloodworms?

    Thank you

The small white dots swimming around are probably seed shrimp.
    Seed shrimp are Ostrocods.

The worms could be detritus worms.
They are commonly sold as freeze dried Tubifex worms.

Both usually get eaten by fish, but because there is only 1 fish in the tank, they are able to increase their population.

Blood worms are the larvae of a small midge (Chironomidae), about the size of a small mosquito.
The midges lay their eggs on the water surface against the side of the tank, and when the larvae hatch, they swim to the substrate, where they bury themselves.
Normally their numbers get kept in check by the fish in the tank.

It doesn’t look if it could be problem. Just need to stock up with fish again.

The bloodworms is a bonus for when the fish come then they will become food.

I’ve heard some guys had sterlize there tank after getting worms. Washing sand and plants and sterilizing the logs. I where not keen on doing it.

I will update again once I get fish in the tank again,

    Thanks again

    Good evening

I’ve added 5 X-ray tetra and problem solved. Worms almost gone and only see 1 or 2 seed shrimps no and then but haven’t spot any in the last 2 days.

Thank you for the advice Pezulu.
