Its hard to say what type of fish you must get because there is a variety of fish available so first of all whats your setup and what type of fish do you currently have.

I do recommen getting a pair of ciclids if your wanting interaction. MY oscars and jack demsyies are great and entertaining? What is your purpose for keeping fish?

Well, currently i have a disaster! Two malawis, a blck comet, 2 vlei kupers, and to top it off a pleco! Thanks for the cichlid tip but a 60 l for an oscar and jack demsy? I doont think thats wise....

oh, sorry didnt read properly yea,um i was thinking of getting some angles but im worried that they are going to out grow the tank, then i saw a paradise fish but then read it was aggressive and ive had my fair share of agro fish, but now that im thinkin i supose rams would be nice ill google them, but its still not final. Oh and i like smart fish with structure the complete opposite to a gold fish!

DEFINITELY NO CICHLIDS IN SUCH A SMALL TANK!! Unless they are dwarf cichlids. Commonly called Apistos.

You have Malawis, goldfish, Kurpers and a pleco in a 60l tank? That is ridiculous!! Take them to your local LFS immediately! None of those fish live together in nature. Malawis are warm water fish demanding a high pH. Goldfish are cold water fish. A Pleco can grow bigger than your entire tank and Kurpers? Make some sushi.

Seriously dude... You want an asian biotope. Might I suggest redoing the entire tank. Get some driftwood, some nice substrate and then some Java Ferns and some mosses. Attatch the ferns and mosses to the wood and fill it with asian fish. I'd suggest Dwarf Gouramis, some small barbs or possible some Galaxy rasboras and a few ottos.

so recap, yes i no none live together in nature but when i set up this tank i went pet store crazy and am in the process of getting rid of every fish but 1 thing my pleco is 3 years old and hes 12 cm... And i feel like i should be finned for being such an idiot! (plese no one call the SAAPA south african aquatic police agency) And this disaster is why i started this thread, i dont want to make the same mistake again!!!

Oh and the kupers are really small as seen on my forum "ID these fish and you've got an IQ of 1000000000000, but are dull if you look quickly but if you look close they have a metallic yellow, green and blue, but are awesome to watch you can see them thinking ,and when the small kuper is being chased he turns a darker to blend in and the malawi swims passed...But please dont try and put them in a tank!I learned the hard way.

Ok so should i get Asian or dwarf? Im worried gouramis will get stressed out i play really loud music in the house !

A puffer species tank might also work - they make great pets! :) I recommend going for the Figure-8 Puffer. Two should be comfortable with each other in a 60l, and they'll soon come to recognise you as their owner.

As a plus side, they're cute and have an attractive pattern, so I'm sure your family will like them as well.

If you play loud music, turn the bass down. Sound waves are air movement. Heavy bass sounds will be the same as you going to your tank and smacking on the glass. Really loud bass and fish tanks don't really mix well.

I'd say, why not try pea puffers. Google them. They are totally fresh water fish, they stay small and they are cool looking.

Just researched the pea puffers at http://www.dwarfpuffers.com and they sound like awesome fish but two problems, they have two tank mates and one is a shrimp and shrimps are illegal and the second problem is its a big time waster!!!

But does sound really nice, so a fish that can be put with more smaller fish.

A lot of people keep Figure-8's in brackish water, and they'll tolerate it. However, do any research on where they are collected from in the wild or anything about their natural distribution, and you'll see that they in fact are a freshwater species above anything else - read the FishBase page. Keeping them in freshwater is completely fine.
That's the reason why I said a species tank - they do have an aggressive tendancy, but a few specimens together can quite successfully fill out a tank.
