where can i trade in fish

    Not sure about SA, but in the UK, most lfs will take fish off you. They usually won't give you much for them. But you might get some credit to spend there.

    Here in Randburg so far I've taken fish back to 2 of our LFS (numerous times - have finally perfected our community tank) and they've had no issue exchanging for other fish (one also gave us a credit note when we couldn't decide on an exchange) .. I guess if you just go in and ask there shouldn't be an issue.. even more so if you already have the fish with you :cheesy: Most don't really have an issue.. I've had a couple of store assistants telling me they can't exchange, and I've then spoken to higher authority in the store and managed it with no problem :)

    Many places will take them off your hands but not compensate you, list the fish with prices and some pics and then see what you get sold before you take them back.

    This is why I'm getting gatvol of petshops. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is just how I feel. A few weeks back I went to my closest LFS and I GAVE them about 8 of my malawi's (all at least 6-7cm) as I wanted to get some new ones. I went back the following day to purchase 2 new fishies (1x 6cm Electric blue, and 1x 2cm convict type). They charged me full price (R150) for the 2 and the fish I GAVE them was nicely selling for R115 per fish.

    Now, R150 won't kill me, but its the principle that bothers me. If they said "I'll give you R5 discount for the R800 worth of fish you gave us", then I'd be happy.

    I will NEVER do bussiness with this petshop again as I see them as money hunting vultures!!

    Thank for this thread, I can now finally blow off some steam... Lol

    Btw, am I being unreasonable??
