    Hi my fellow fish keepers.

Does anybody on TASA that stays in Gauteng/East Rand area, buy Batting from their local material shops.

Sure a few people do, can they then tell me where exactly do you buy it.

I want to be sure this stuff is the right type of batting, I heard you get batting with a fireproof chemical which is obviously dealdy for our fishes.

Come on guys share the knowledge with us all.

Please if you can give the shops name and contact details and addresses or the malls name.

NB!!! I just want to make sure that other members alos use the same type of batting succesfully in their filters.

Want to make sure it is the SAFE stuff.

    Thanks.

I have bought and used batting from the material shop in Elgin Mall and had no issues.

Just make sure you rinse it thoroughly because it gives off a lot of fine fibres.

generally the fire proof one is a bit more expensive. i also use the stuff. If you ask the sales person, generally they have an idea what they are talking about unlike most LFS.

@DarylA hi dude I got some batting from that material shop in Elgin mall. They have it in a big roll for R22 a metre. Is this how you got yours. Just want to make sure it is the same stuff.

    Please advice.

Cool so you have used it for a while?

Looks like it will work nicely.

1 meter of the stuff is plenty, will probably last me few months :) thanks for the tip.

I don't use it any more but did so for over a year without any problems. It was in a HOB for fine filtering and it worked well.

Just remeber to rinse it very well to get as many loose strands out as possible

    No, not anymore.

I bought two internal power filters that pull water through a coarse sponge, fine spone and Purigen which I rinse in tank water at every weekly water change.
