what's with the neon tetra shortage

Was phoning around over the weekend for FS in the east rand looking for neon tetras and the only place that has them is wanting R13 each (total rip off) - Pet Masters charge R7 but they have no stock atm. :-(

 

Depends on popularity,we have lots of neons here in Pretoria at Petcity most of the time.Can only find EarthEaters in Johannesburg and HatchetFish in CapeTown

Where is pet city, and do they have stock?

In Tzaneen a imported neon from Brazil costs R25 and a SA bread R15 so I'd say you guys are lucky.
The imported ones have a gorgeous green shine.
The cardinals are R35.

 

Are you sure that these aren't the green neons, Paracheirodon simulans?

 

No I'm not sure, the guy has them labeled as neons.
I'll take a look at the green neon, I got a good look at them the other day.

 

I will go to pet city tomorrow and check it out if possible..
its 2 robots away - and PET CITY has the cleanest tanks and always healthy fish

 

I had a quick look at Paracheirodon simulans and they don't look like the ones the LFS had.
The ones at the LFS look like normal neons with a light green tone.
They are wild caught so that my be the difference.

I regret leaving a bad review about their store,was really pissed of after losing some fish.Was my own fault for buying fish from a severely overcrowded tank.

You should also take a look at crazy plastics which is very close to them if you need any containers at good prices,Builders warehouse also has some cheap pumps and piping.

I will be staying very close to them then, I normally go to airport pets as there equipment has good prices.

I'm taking a double Daro air pump, Tetra pond aquasafe,2x50watt heaters, a small plastic fish tank of 4L and a 5L and maybe some fish food, and a plastic plant or two.

 

You know you are addicted to fish keeping when...you know how many traffic lights it is to your nearest LFS :laugh:

Walk in a shop and ask for 1x neon... rofl lolll no...
