    Hi all

I saw my khuli this morning darting around his a bit more active than usual.

Did my weekly 50 % water-change today. All fish happy.

    Tested water before.
    60 liters
    Amm 0
    Nitrite 0
    Nitrate was 10.

All good. Then did waterchange . And now I noticed this white patch on his back. Please check pics .

Could he be shedding skin and just feeling irritated and that's why his darting around?

Hard to tell - could be bacteria, could be fungus, could be irritation (if for instance the municipality has put more / different chemicals in the water). I don't know what to suggest - maybe put in an extra dose of water conditioner?

Oh, where do you live by the way? Did it rain today? If so that might explain the earlier darting which would leave the post-water-change behaviour and white patch only. Try the extra water conditioner.

    Hi @PsyXe,

Definitely not raining heat wave here in Cape Town ( Durbanville). Damn there is also absolutely no information on this on the Web.

Poor guy , placed him in my net, fish were starting to eat him, he is still alive. Bearley holding on - maybe another hour to live, sooo freaking sad right now.

He was still fine yesterday all started this morning. Columnaris is the closest diagnosis on the Internet, could this be?
And what if it is? What then?

Mmmm I'd expect other fish to show signs in case of Columnaris. What other fish are in?

When I examined him I could not see loose skin, but it was blood red in color in that area.

Just a thought : darting isn't that strange for Kuhlis after waterchanges. Could it be it got stuck and burned itself against the heather ?

In donot think so, because I noticed him acting strange in the morning already and that is when I spotted the whitish patch on his back. Could have been that he did get hurt the previous night somewhere. Will have to hold thumbs that it's not something medical.

Yes, however I thought is was unrelated - 2 cardinals and 4 rummy noses last week. But I thought it was neon tetra disease.

So after the khuli another 3 rummy noses. That is when I started a thread to ask if Tetra disease could have killed my khuli , and that is when @sub-lime suggested "saddleback " . I looked it up and there it was all symptoms are matching. I did an 50% waterchange. I have no antibiotics and not sure if I should euthanize the remaining sick tetras. I have 5 left 2 are definitely infected which means if I can see it, then it is too far gone. The other 3 are looking good. Cories and remaining 2 khuli's are really looking healthy. Shrimp are fine as well.

But except for the physical signs the real shocker came when I examined the rummy nose yesterday after he passed away. His stomach was almost brownish / yellow color. And then I saw a picture on the Internet explaining columnaris and there it was my rummy nose identical lesion.

I am just hoping that it will end. I will do another 50% waterchange tomorrow.
