Hi everybody. So I have a spare 4ft tank that is made from 12mm glass lying around. I'm going to put in my entertainment area in my lapa. Now I have to adhere to my wife's request to please put some corydora catfish ( a variety of them) and a variety of pleco's (ones that doesn't grow too big) into that tank. Now I've been pondering, seeing that we have the bottom feeders and the tank is 700mm high, what fish to put in there to cover the middle and top? It will be run with a cannister that pumps 750l/hr and have a fine gravel with some plants. I'm stuck between Bolivian rams and Discus. Is there somebody that can give me some pro's and con's about both of these fish as I like them for their beauty but know very little about them. What I'm actually asking is to please tell me what I will need to do to keep them and if they are suitable to be tankmates with Cory's and pleco's. Makulu
i have dwarf flag cichlids , not the same but in the same area there and they are calm with my corys and tetras so they are a good possibility and the rams colours are wonderful, i dont know anything about discuses tho
Calling on some of the guys I know have experience with these fish... @jpvd007... @jedigenie? can you guys help out here?
Rather go with angels instead of discus. They would work well with corys and you could keep a school of 5 to 6 depending on your filter.
Thanks @tracyp for asking for my input. Tough asking me to choose between discus and bolivian rams but in this case I would say the combo of angels, corys (stick to a bunch of the same species please) and bolivian rams are a winner imo. Go with a wild looking angel (like the amazing specimens Prof B breeds). An uncomplicated setup with vallis, some wood (for the ancistrus to munch on), stones and anubias for a biotope-ish look at you will be rewarded with many ooohs and aaahhhs from visitors admiring your little slice of amazon. Gosh Im already picturing it in my head. Good luck with the setup, looking forward to seeing what you decide upon. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I'll be running it on tap water, but I will let the tank run for a month before I put in the fish. I'm aiming to keep my Ph at about 7.2 - 7.6.
Hi everybody. Thank you for the replies. It's very helpful so far, but I did not get any pro's and con's about the discus.
