My jag loves the camera...feeding squid and pink praws. What else can i feed my cichlids to get colours to develop more?

Squid and prawn is great but try and give them some pellets too as the pellets are formulated to give a balanced diet
Hikari has the cichlid colour enhancing pellets which are very good

    You can also give mealworms
Feed the mealworms pieces of carrot and then feed them to your fish

A combination of all the above should bring out their colours and is healthy

Thx @MariaS. Remember i told you they bred a while back. Last pic of the two with babies. Was super surprised that they actually did it. Wil try the carrot and mealworms. Sounds very interresting. Will try with oscar as well.

If you're going for colour, as above, a formulated feed will help (especially those marked as having carotenoids) the most. I know some people do DIY feed formulations for colour enhancement, but I'm not too familiar with those. Recipes do exist, somewhere out there on the net.

Remember that Jags are, in nature anyways, primarily piscivorous animals, and would likely appreciate the taste of fish meat every now and then. Sardine, tuna, salmon, tilapia, etc. are some examples, and predatory fishes take it with gusto. They do often contain a lot of oils though - as good as this may be for your fish, it might leave an oily slick behind on the water. Don't overfeed the stuff, don't do it too often, and try to 'clean' the food well before throwing it in.

    Regards,

Thx. I do daily water changes and i unclog (not clean) my filters regularly to keep flow strong. I have noticed they particularly like lancefish and i always try to wash the squid before feeding them. Defo gonna try the carrot and mealword thing. Maybe feed the meelworms beetroot

    Agree with above

Hikari make a number of very good cichlid pellets.Worth tracking some of those down.
