    Hi all
    I need some Help here.
I have a few "BIG" fish that I can't keep feeding them just pellets so I need to know what else I can feed them. I was thinking of making my own food for them but I am not sure what to add to the mix.
I want to add Ox heart that I am going to prepare my self and tetra Prima what else can I add to this to make it a well balanced meal for them?

I'd imagine they might love some frozen shrimp/small prawns depending on how big they are :)

I have read it but my problem is that the fish I have are to big to just feed pellets and so on and it is way to expensive to buy frozen food for them every week so I have to do some thing to feed them.....
As for the heart I have ask them what the Ox was fed and were there any growth hormones add to get it bigger and I was assured but the person it was a clean ox no extras.
and I am preparing it my self so there is no fat on it at all I cut it all out.
I want to add Tetra Prima to my mix because of it being a great food supply and is very nutritious I don't want to add egg or gelatine to the mix I want to just add water so that it freezes, it can brake apart in the water I mean most frozen food does that any way (blood worms, Brine shrimp). so just would like to find out if there is any thing else that a person can add to the mix to improve it or what.

    Thanks

    Hey Gareth

With my 'big boys' I give them a vaierty - and as stated before, frozen sea food is the best option. Mammalian meats aren't ideal for fish to feed on, as you'll find that they'll have a problem processing the fats. Besides, how often would your fish eat mammal meat in the wild?

If you really want to give them a variety and you think that ox heart or chicken livers are something you'd like to try, make sure that you get as much excess fat off as possible, and give the meat a good wash before feeding it to your fish. Chicken liver can be especially polluting and can make the water cloudy for quite a while.

Otherwise, I feed my fish frozen prawns, shrmips, sardines, octopus, squid, as well as crab - all defrosted and cut to appropriate sizes beforehand, of course. Sometimes I add half a handful of Tetra Prima to the mix as well to give them those extra nutrients.

You just need to find a reliable source... yes guppies breed like, well, guppies, but I've heard a few people say not fast enough for food. Hehe.

Do they really eat that much that it's expensive to keep frozen food?

Rather don't - guppies aren't extremely nutritious, and it'll end up costing you in the long run, what with running another tank, feeding the guppies etc. Another problem with live food is that there is the chance of introducing a disease into the tank from the feeder fish.

Frozen Prawns as an alternative every 2nd or third day.
Buy a whole beefheart and cut off the fat,cut into small/er pieces and freeze.

This will make for a more varied diet.

AND live food such as ................well guppies/mollies/danios etc.

P.S.Do not forget the cleaned earthworms as well and the mealworms.
